In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of kidney transplants with excellent results, thanks to the implementation of resources aimed at promoting kidney transplantation from both living and deceased donors. To date, optimal management of patients on the kidney transplant list, living-donor kidney transplantation, and new strategies to overcome the immunological barriers of hyperimmune transplant candidates are key aspects in offering the best therapeutic options to patients awaiting kidney transplantation. Indeed, even hyperimmune patients who are kidney transplant candidates, who previously had little chance of being transplanted, now have new therapeutic options, such as the national hyperimmune program and the availability of new desensitization therapies.

Patients with end-stage renal disease who are candidates for kidney transplant require complex multidisciplinary management, both before and after transplantation, based on close collaboration between nephrologists, dialysis centers, and transplant center nursing and surgical coordinators. The purpose of this day is to discuss new treatment options and create a shared path between transplant centers and local nephrology centers.
