SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE
Parathyroid disorders encompass a wide range of clinical conditions, which can present as both metabolic emergencies and complex chronic conditions. Severe hypocalcemia and hypercalcemia require prompt recognition, correct etiology, and appropriate therapeutic interventions, while the management of primary hypoparathyroidism and tertiary hyperparathyroidism requires specific expertise to personalize the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway, monitor potential complications, and correctly identify indications for medical or surgical treatment. The ongoing evolution of knowledge and therapeutic options therefore necessitates ongoing training for residents and young specialists in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases.
The training day offers an interactive, practice-oriented approach, based on the presentation and discussion of representative cases. For each condition, the diagnostic process, acute phase and follow-up management, and decision-making criteria will be explored in depth, with particular attention to the integration of medical therapy and the indication for parathyroidectomy. The interaction between students and the School's expert instructors will foster the development of clinical reasoning, the appropriate application of available evidence, and the acquisition of skills useful for the multidisciplinary management of patients with impaired calcium-phosphorus metabolism.
