The SISDCA is the first and longest-running Italian scientific society dedicated to Nutrition and Eating Disorders (NAD), the current name for what were once called Eating Disorders. It was founded in 1991 under the aegis of multidisciplinarity, with the aim of bringing together specialists from diverse backgrounds and professions (doctors of various specialties, psychologists-psychotherapists, dieticians, psychiatric rehabilitation technicians, educators, etc.) who in various capacities deal with these conditions in order to increase evidence-based knowledge and improve treatments. A fundamental principle of the SISDCA is the importance of treating these conditions with an integrated, multiprofessional, interdisciplinary approach that involves, within specifically constituted teams, different professionals who share a care model and integrate their specific skills to assess the characteristics and needs of each patient, organize and implement the best possible treatment for that specific individual (personalization of therapeutic intervention). Eating and Nutrition Disorders are increasingly common conditions that primarily affect adolescents and young adults, but are also increasingly affecting children, adults and older adults, of all races, cultures, socioeconomic classes, genders, and sexual orientations. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the onset of many new cases, occurring in very young individuals, with rapid development and extreme severity, as well as the worsening or relapse of those already affected. As a scientific society, we have always sought to disseminate best practices for the prevention, identification, and treatment of these conditions through our annual national conference, a university master's program, in-person and online training courses, and our regional chapters, bodies established by the society's bylaws tasked with bringing together specialists from each regional area (sometimes from multiple regions) to offer training and discussion on Eating and Nutrition Disorders. A regional chapter of the SISDCA is being established in Sardinia, and we have decided to hold our 2025 national conference in Sardinia to facilitate meetings with regional specialists and provide high-level training on the new challenges that Eating Disorders pose to clinicians, families, and society at large. The program includes opening remarks by local and national officials, keynote lectures by our eminent members and international speakers, sessions on "hot topics," and ample space for young researchers to present their research, which a scientific committee has deemed worthy of interest. With this conference, we aim to examine Eating Disorders and their interconnections with other pathologies, the contrasting visions and approaches, the contradictions we encounter between the ideal and the reality, and the aspects considered crucial by clinicians, patients and their families, and the media.
